Another Girl In The Neighbourhood

Just a couple of quotes I've picked up from the internet concerning the new Friday evening ITV sitcom, Teenage Kicks.

Phil McIntyre, executive producer, said: "Ade Edmondson is one of the UK's most loved and talented comedians. This is a long overdue return to Young Ones madness. I am delighted to be working with Adrian and ITV on this five-star comedy mayhem."

Adrian* Edmondson, star and co-writer said: “I think it’s misleading to suggest this show is a return to Young Ones madness. This is much more of a family sitcom. It’s aimed at anyone who’s been a parent or a child. Which, of course, is everyone…"

We saw ten minutes of this on Friday as we'd been reliably informed by the free papers that it was diabolically bad.

It was worse than that. It was a kind of My Family for the "punk" generation.

Actually, scrap that. Adrian might take it as a compliment.

* He's not "Ade" to me.

  1. This was worse than execrable on the radio - so the BBC dumped it on ITV.
And wasn't your good self (Ben) involved?

  2. If it's new, it'll be a couple of years before it makes it to BBC Canada.

  3. He (yes, Adrian) should stick to Bottom instead of going up his own. It's what he's good at.

  4. Kaz - Wasn't Adrian (big)headhunted? Ben doesn't seem to be involved in the tv series. It's even too shit for him.

MJ - Gavin & Stacey starts next Saturday on BBC Canada! Watch that instead!

Istvanski - He's always annoyed me but I had a tinge of sympathy for him with this one. Then I realised he's getting paid for it. I expect Rowland Rivron will turn up on it at some point. Just when you think it can't get any worse.

  5. Uh oh.

I just read about Gavin & Stacey and it says, "NBC has announced that it plans to make an adapted version of Gavin and Stacey for the United States."

Can't the Americans leave well enough alone? Ever?

  6. Congratulations on making it through 10 minutes.
Has Adrian Edmondson ever been funny?

  7. MJ - Ever since Archie Bunker they've plundered and ballsed up. The American Office is supposed to be good though. But what's the point?

Vicus - He was the least funny of The Young Ones which is pretty good going. Jennifer, Adrian, Dawn and Lenny. A big barrel of laughs.

  8. It doesn't matter how frickin' bad it is..some Programming twat in the Colonies will repackage it and stuff it down our throats...they always do.

  9. You can't talk about Ade like that ... he's comedy Royalty!

With Roland and Dawn and Lennie and Jennifer and ... It's only a matter of time before they all have a "y" on the end of their names like Adey and Tarbey.

Anyway, just like royalty they are inbred, out of touch, overpaid - but not of course as funny.

  10. Donn - Have you had Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps yet?...Then again I suppose you do get our good stuff too. We get nothing from Canada at all.

Murph - I don't mind so much when they're on ITV. But I begrudge even a tiny bit of my licence fee keeping the alternative comedy pensioners in the comfort they don't deserve.

  11. Donn must still be asleep so I'll answer that question.

Yes, we get Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps in Canada.

And one of the most popular Google searches on my blog is for "Will Mellor's cock".

  12. You're truly blessed.

Did you know the name of the show is from a song by crap punk band Splodgenessabounds?

Of course Teenage Kicks is better known as a decent song by not bad punk band The Undertones.

Never Mind The Buzzcocks is a mixture of a Sex Pistols album and the name of best punk band of all time.

    Forthcoming comedy shows...

White Van Man In Hammersmith Palais
    Alternative Ulcer
Dan In The Tube Station At Midnight

  13. No, I didn't know that!

I am indebted to you once again for my education in all things British.

  14. Everyone has been either a parent or a child? Scuse me, apparently I was born middle-aged!

  15. MJ - You're welcome.

Llewtrah - You're lucky you don't have to watch it then.

  16. I saw some of this. It really brought me down. He was never what you could call charismatic, that Edmondson, but he was positively inhuman in this. He seems genuinely to have no awareness of what he's actually doing. The man has no dignity. I'm finished with him.

  17. He was wearing a Clash t-shirt and mentioning The Clash in the bit I saw.

Still wasn't as embarrassing as his performance with the Kaiser Chiefs on Later NYE two years ago though. I'll remember that forever.

  18. Oh now there's someone looking for "Will Mellor in the nude wearing white socks."

  19. Not in a white Nudie suit?
