Intermission

The Paul Young/Gary Numan cross sits opposite me on my commuter train. He is speaking loudly into his mobile phone to whom I presume to be a work colleague.

"PUBLIC SPEAKING DOESN'T BOTHER ME AT ALL,"

he shouts.

"BUT NOT IN THAT ENVIRONMENT."

I am so glad he feels more comfortable here.

  1. Have you considered that it might have actually been Paul Young.
He would have been still upset at his untimely exit from the Celebrity Masterchef heats.

  2. Was he sitting under one of those signs which shows a mobile phone with a line through it - ie: shut up and be quiet here?

  3. Paul Young has always had a notoriously quiet voice, so it's not him. These days his voice is so shot to pieces they have to turn all the instruments down to 2 and his mic up to 12.

  4. Murph/Wyndham - No, it definitely wasn't Paul Young (he probably had more of the Numan about him - mad staring eyes especially). It couldn't be Numan though because he flies everywhere with his groupie/wife.

RoMo - I'm afraid we don't get those signs on our trains, although the conviviality of some of the non-phone-using commuters probably gets more on my nerves.

  5. Numan is the man who married his own stalker. Which is one way of dealing with it, I guess.

  6. At least she won't murder him. Unless he looks at another woman.

  7. Didn't the blonde one from Abba get together with a stalker as well?

    Hmmm.

Perhaps I should revive my Will Self stalking campaign.
