Fills One Side Only

The inaugrual Geoff & Betty mixtape. We found Mixwit via Boggins whose own mixtape is very enjoyable.

Mixwit is a great idea but doomed to failure as it relies on the mp3s being permanently available on the internet. Of course the buggers are always disappearing so that in time there'll be nothing left on this tape. There will be the sound of silence which is probably how it should be.

p.s. If any of the songs are no longer there, skip till the next one.

  2. Oh yes, we mustn't forget to put our clocks forward.

  3. Ooh, this is a bit of a blogger's craze, isn't it?

  4. Oh well.

That went down like a lead balloon.

Don't think we'll bother repeating the exercise then.

  5. That's funny, I got "Windy" last week from I-tunes for 72pence.

I suppose a can of Tesco Baked Beans wiould have been cheaper.

  6. Istvanski - It's a damn sight easier than podcasting.

Betty - We can wallow in our own misery without any interlopers. We are freaks and we've got to accept that fact.

Murph - I've got an idea for a windy compilation. Blowin' in the Wind, Summer Breeze, etc.

  7. Where is the Dan Hill selection?

  8. It's all Dan Hill from now on.

  9. Wot no Lonnie Donegan either?
I wanted something to take my mind off the Merseyside derby.

  10. Calm down! Calm down!

I'm just glad King Super Messiah Kev K's up and running at just the right time.

I think Lonnie Donnegan was one of my flash in the pans. His nasality gets on my nerves a bit now.

  11. Do you take requests?

  12. Arrgh you said Dan Hill!

I loved this idea! But then I remembered all of the times that I yanked snarled tape out of the f*cking deck just after I had finally FFd or RWd to find it and then you heard that muffled wrrmmmmbazrrf crinkling sound as it was getting eaten...

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  13. Donn: Was that why you chose 8-tracks instead?

  14. MJ - You hum it, I'll play it.

Donn - I had to use virtual sellotape to get this one up and running.

MJ - The man who chose 8-track and Betamax.

  16. Ooo 'triguing. As soon as I have a spare thirty minutes I will listen to this. By which time everyone will no doubt have said everything there is to say about it. But I just wanted to register that I will be taking part, just after everyone else.

I am hoping to be enjoyful of the experience.

  17. Thank you Boz.

    I hope you like it.

  18. Well, I listened to it. Good stuff, although I didn't much care for thye contribution from former Australian PM John Howard.

(Please tell Betty, cos I can't comment on her post telling us we're all bastards.)

  19. Sorry, only just caught up with this - been very busy pretending to be a farmer. Like it very much and will recommend it on The Edge. that should see the crofters and smallholders flocking in in their. . . twos and threes, if you're lucky.

  20. Tim - I agree that the John Howard track isn't all that. A poor man's Jobriath!

    Malc - thanks!

Sorry for butting in there, but just wanted to prove that I don't think you're all bastards. Well, most of you are, apart from Tim, Boz and Malc of course ;)

  21. John Howard. Not even good enough for Morrissey to big him up. But I like him anyway.

    Thanks Tim and Malc.

I love the way they've designed the playback mechanism, I think it looks fab.

I almost signed up for one of these things, which allowed to to upload your own MP3s, but then I came to my senses. Nobody is remotely interested in the stuff I like.

I think the problem with the whole mixtape/imix/playlist thing is that the 90/10 rule applies. 90% of people are interested in compiling them, but only an exceptional 10% are interested in listening.

It was true in the old days, too, with real tapes.

  23. You've nailed it on the head there, Bob.

We certainly won't be doing another one.

    It does look good, though.

  24. I liked it. Odd and off-beat, individual and intriguing. What does that remind me of...?

  25. A pair of weirdos?

    Thanks, Annie.

  26. I've only just realised (via Malc) that that isn't just a picture of a tape you can actually play it!

(dim and dimmer by the minute)

    ps I like it!

    ReplyDelete
  27. And you don't have to rewind it to play it again!

    Cheers, Ziggi.

  28. I too have ironing, during which I will listen to this.

There's another site named muxtape which uploads files from your own machine. I'll guinea-pig that for you too. (I don't have any William Shatner - sorry)

    ReplyDelete
  29. That'll teach me not to read ALL the comments. Now I feel like an idiot.

    Anyone know any compliant idiots?

  30. We saw muxtape in action on Troubled Diva and I look forward to your mix. There's not an enormous choice via Mixwit and sometimes you click on a song and it's suddenly no longer available. There is an enormous choice at home so muxtape would be preferable.

It's pretty lonely being a mute DJ with an audience of less than 10 though.
